Functional Accountabilities
Nursing Process
1. Contribute to development of the individualized plan of care.
2. Assist with implementation of the individualized plan of care utilizing appropriate resources as needed.
3. Collaborate with multidisciplinary team in the school setting, as appropriate.
4. Document according to school health policies and procedures(e.g. UHC, OHA, screenings, parent/guardian notifications).
5. Administer first aide, medications, and federal and district mandated screenings (e.g. hearing, vision, height/weight).
6. Obtain vital signs to include recording and monitoring and the recognition of abnormal ranges.
7. Assist the nurse or student in providing specialized treatments.
8. Maintain inventory or school health and first aid supplies.
9. Proactively communicate with parents, students, and/or other agencies for the purpose of promoting needed documents and/or treatments.
1. Ensuring proper immunization history and verification of immunizations
1. Monitor students referred for illness for the purpose of ensuring their safety and welfare
1. Report incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, injury related accidents) for the purpose of maintaining student personal safety
1. Respond to emergencies for the purpose of determining and implementing appropriate actions required to maintain health and safety of students.
1. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Communication
1. Utilize appropriate verbal and non-verbal communication skills with school age children/families and all members of the healthcare team.
2. Collaborate and coordinate with other team members in delivering health care services.
3. Communicate necessary medical information in a timely manner to appropriate school personnel, parents/guardians, and delegating school nurse while maintaining confidentiality
Patient/Family Education
1. Ensure Patient/Family understand plan of care and health status implications.
2. Identify ongoing education needs of school age children/families based on plan of care.
3. Report to delegating school nurse school age children/families response to health related education and progress toward goals.

Minimum Education
High School Diploma or GED
Minimum Work Experience
1 year
Specific Requirements and Preferences
- Related clinical experience in a comparable setting. (Required)
- Health care experience in a community health, ambulatory care, inpatient or school health setting. (Required)
- Experience in the care of school-aged children. (Required)
- Pediatrics experience. (Preferred)

- Knowledge of medical terminology; community resources; interviewing techniques.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Perform various screening techniques.
- Monitor vital signs and discern deviations from the norm.
- Knowledge of basic first aid procedures and practices.
- Demonstrates sensitivity when dealing with persons with diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Demonstrates effective conflict resolution skills.
