Minimum Education
High Schoold Degree/GED - required

Bachelor's Degree - preferred

Minimum Work Experience
5 years of related and progressive dental assistant experience. 

1 year supervisory experience required. 

Required Licenses and Certifications

In the District of Columbia must be licensed as a certified dental assistant no exception.



Functional Accountabilities

Strategic Planning
1. With Director, contribute to strategic plan for department services, include short- and long-term objectives related to clinical care.
2. Collect and analyze staff service/department effectiveness.
3. With Director, incorporate findings into plans to modify program/ service delivery.

Program Administration
1. Troubleshoot clinical operational issues and develop action plans to resolve.
2. Collaborate with Director on significant clinical operational issues/barriers such as staffing and equipment.
3. Assist Director to develop, implement and evaluate services, programs, policies and procedures, and performance standards for Dental assisting staff to achieve departmental goals.
4. With Director, evaluate current as well as new clinical program initiatives for effectiveness, feasibility and cost in regards to equipment, clinic supplies, and vendor contracts.
5. Develop assistant staffing plans/schedules to optimize productivity and ensure quality services.
6. Ensure compliance with CNMC policies and procedures, and OSHA and MOSHA standards

Collaborate
1. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all persons with whom collaboration is required; CNMC Environmental services and engineering, OR nurses and Central Sterilization.

Human Resources
1. Provide guidance and oversight to CNMC personal (DA) in carrying out the mission of CNMC, under the general direction of the chair of the dental department.
2. In collaboration with Director, interview, train, develop and direct clinical assistant staff to meet departmental objectives.
3. Approve time and attendance for dental assistants.
4. Provide timely coaching and performance feedback to all Dental Assistants.
5. Provide opportunities for assistants to fulfill Continuing Education Requirements.
6. Deploy staff appropriately to meet business objectives for Dental Department.

Clinical Supervision
1. Direct clinic patient flow to maximize departmental resources and customer satisfaction.
2. Investigate complaints, errors, and other operational or equipment problems, and take corrective action by using CNMC Biomedical support, engineering or BENCO.
3. Participate to create an atmosphere and condition, which are conducive to, and foster motivation of employees to work at optimal efficiency.
4. Routinely provide for the “on-the-spot” in services when minor deficiencies are observed, so that problems do not persist or grow worse.
5. Keep dental director informed regarding critical incidents and service issues.
6. Assist with regulatory compliance activities including; JACHO, Accreditations: Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics.
7. Communicate with outside vendors such as BENCO and Ultradent, Oral B, Red Lion.
8. Establish school/ institutional pricing for products.
9. Place supply orders as needed.
10. Schedule maintenance through outside vendors as needed.
11. Schedule contracted maintenance as needed.
12. Coordinate appliance delivery with Great Lakes labs.
13. Review and maintain procedures and policies.
14. Review and maintain MSDS for products.
15. Lecture for both staff and medical students as requested.
16. Serve as a resource for families with patients that have special needs.
17. Respond to phone calls for assistance to make appt in Dentrix.
